We review OTC hearing aids using real specs, honest loss-level matching, and buyer community reports. No paid placements. No brand sponsorships.
What We Do
HearingAidOTC.com is an independent review site for the FDA's new OTC hearing aid category. We focus on three things:
- Loss-level matching. OTC aids only work for mild to moderate loss. We tell you which product fits which loss profile — and when to see an audiologist instead.
- Honest tradeoffs. Every product has real weaknesses. We cover them — even when the product earns us a commission.
- FDA context. The 2022 ruling changed what you can buy and how. Every guide explains what the rules actually mean for real buyers.
We do not accept free products in exchange for reviews. Rankings are based on specs and verified buyer reports from hearing loss communities like Hearing Loss Association of America forums and Reddit's r/HearingLoss.

How We Evaluate Products
- Loss level range. What decibel range does the product amplify? Does the maker publish this clearly? We flag cases where they do not.
- Fitting method. How does the user calibrate the aid? App-based hearing tests vary significantly in quality.
- Return window. You need time to adapt. We note any product with fewer than 30 days.
- Form factor. Completely-in-canal, behind-the-ear, and earbud styles suit different users. We match style to use case.
- Buyer community reports. Audiologists and experienced buyers in hearing loss communities often catch real-world issues that spec sheets miss.
